Left the Light on...

“We are told to let our light shine, and if it does, we won't need to tell anybody it does. Lighthouses don't fire cannons to call attention to their shining- they just shine.”
Dwight L. Moody quotes (American Evangelist, 1837-1899)

Soon there will be a full moon filling up the night skies. Tonight, however, there is fog. And sentinels over a century old are still at work, aiding those at sea. The oil lamps are gone; solar power fuels them now. Towers are literally bringing sunlight to the night.

They are like church steeples to me. Monuments to Light; they are guiding and beckoning those in need. Reassuring to others who know their own path. I could write pages about their symbolism…but pictures are frequently worth a thousand words.

This is Wind Point Light near Racine, Wisconsin. It is a beautiful place, by day or night.

If you browse on over to another good source of Light, you’ll find Se’lah’s blog, Necessary Room, and you can also find out how to win a copy of this print!

Happy Birthday

Today is Se'Lah's birthday. She is the Super Hero of the NecessaryRoom blog. Ever the Champion of the underdog and fierce Protector of Justice, she still manages to pull off HUGE web parties for others. She expects nothing in return.

I think she at least needs an occasional cookie. I decided she might like some NASCAR Oreos.

Happy Birthday Se'Lah!

Hope Springs Eternal

While I am pondering where my time evaporates to, and where this blog is going, I have some suggestions for you to consider as very fine reading indeed. I have mentioned Soul Aperture in the past and I am mentioning it again because this week there is a link to an interview with the author Christina. The interview itself is done by Erin Faith Allen of one girl + one camera, another good read in itself. You will find photography at its finest and words to stir your heart and soul at both blogs.
Over at the Necessary Room you will find the musings of Se’Lah, a true woman of the world and fierce champion of the underdog. Here is place for reflecting as well, as well as history to marvel at. There is poetry inspired by the circle of life, and occasionally a video to soak in.
On the lighter side, you will find Liz Owen and her faithful schnauzer sidekick Mabel over at Mabelshouse. Liz has aspirations to follow in the footsteps of Erma Bombeck. From what I’ve read she is a good contender. She is frequently laugh-out-loud funny; there is recent scientific evidence of health benefits derived from this sort of exercise. I follow her on twitter as well; you really can’t have too many laughs in a day. She has profound posts of her own now and again and has recently completed her first book.

Go now and enjoy the works of these multi-facted and inspirational women. Read their archives. Laugh. Cry. Wonder. Dream. And then come back here to visit. Maybe I’ll have my own thoughts collected by then.
